MINAKO JO
城 美奈子
I am the president of Halau Hula O Kaleimakamae.
In my childhood, I learned piano and was involved in rhythm and music.
In 2003, I started hula with her mother, Yukiko Shiro, and was fascinated by the joy and depth of the actual dance, which was different from what I had seen before.
After seven years as an instructor, I took over the presidency from Yukiko Shiro and became the leader of the company.
I continues to study hula as her life's work, and hopes to pass on the joy and depth of the hula and the pleasure of dancing at events.
I believes that the students are united as fellow hula dancers, and that they are all motivated to dance together and create something beautiful. I values the feeling of being able to take on new challenges at any age.
I also teach my students to take their lessons one step higher while being healed by the hula.
In 2012, she took over Halau Hula O Kaleimakamae from her mother, Yukiko Shiro.
Her studio was chosen as No. 1 in the recommended ranking of 20 hula dance schools in Tokyo in 2022.
She has appeared in many media, magazines, and TV hula scenes teaching and expanding her activities.
Currently she has studios in Shinjuku, Kanamachi in Katsushika-ku, and Seiseki Sakuragaoka, and offer lessons at three locations.
